COVID-19 and concerns over everyone's health and safety is something that we take very seriously.  And just like everyone we are subject to legal emergency orders, and directives from Medical Officers of Health.

The Board of Directors issued an updated statement on 29 April 2020:

29 April 2020

Since our last update, we have been continuously watching the restrictions on public gatherings, physical distancing measures, and the future of large events in Ottawa during the COVID-19 pandemic. And evaluating how it may affect this year's CanFURence scheduled for July 31st - Aug 2nd 2020.

Currently we are still full steam ahead with planning and hosting CanFURence 2020.
If a cancellation of the event does take place, we will automatically default to rolling your registration over to our 2021 year. Dealer tables will also have an automatic roll over.

You may also donate your registration to CanFURence, helping to ensure our continued ability to host our event. Like many of our fellow conventions, some expenses have already been incurred for the 2020 year. While we do have an emergency reserve for situations such as this, any donation will be greatly appreciated and helps us to make next year even better.

If you are unable to attend the following year a refund will be processed by request.

Please be sure to follow our social media accounts for further updates. If you have any questions, please reach out to us via email at

Official statement from CanFURence's Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors would like to acknowledge the current concerns regarding Covid-19, as many conventions have needed to make difficult decisions recently. Although our convention is still several months away, this update was necessary given the circumstances, and because health and safety are always our top priorities.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to work "full steam ahead" to bring furry fun to Ottawa this July 31st - Aug 2nd, 2020. As such, we will ensure that we do so with the most up-to-date information and recommendations from Ottawa Public Health, as well as our provincial and federal health authorities.

As always, please keep an eye on our official social media for any and all updates pertaining to our convention;

Having said that, there is no harm in asking, we try to be very Lenient.

Furries are people who are fans of anthropomorphic animal characters. Anthropomorphic means human-like; and in the case of furries, animal mascots or animal cartoons are the kinds of characters that are being referred to (think Bugs Bunny, or Judy Hopps/Nick Wilde from the movie Zootopia). We bring them to life in any way we can, like cosplay, visual art, stories, or performance.

Many furries also have a character (sometimes characters) we create, which we identify with, and that’s who we are to the community. To us, this character is our personal mascot, only instead of rooting for a team, we’re simply rooting for the person inside.
