As Canadians, it may feel easy for us to see what is happening in America right now and feel that it may not involve us. This could not be farther from the truth. This is not just an American problem, and we must acknowledge our own country's harmful actions and words both past and present. We are not excluded. We need to stand together and speak out against racism and discrimination, no matter where it's coming from.

As furries, we pride ourselves in having a diverse and inclusive community. It's a place where so many of us feel safe to express who we are. We claim to welcome everyone regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexuality; but that doesn't mean we are doing all we can to let people be themselves. There is still discrimination and ignorance here, and we must accept that we have to do more in order to genuinely create a space where all furries are able to speak freely and be heard.

At CanFURence, we do not accept intolerance or discrimination. We state firmly that Black Lives Matter, with no exception. We stand with the Black community in solidarity against the violence, ignorance, injustice, and racism that so many have endured. This cannot continue. Not in our fandom, and not in our world.

The Board of Directors will be discussing more ways to ensure that all are truly welcome, and everyone is able to feel truly safe at our con. We also would like you to help us better support the people of colour within the fandom. Share them with us and help us promote them.

Please remember that this does not go away when trending stops. This is a part of our world that we must continue to work towards the ending of within our communities.

Thank you,
Stay safe, and stay well.

Black Lives Matter.
